Golden retriever puppy?

  • i am looking for a golden retriever puppy for my children for xmas i would like to collect in on the 24th of dec but am willing to put down a deposit now on a puppy due mid to late oct. any advice would be greatly received. thanks

  • I think you'd be better off buying a toy puppy for them. Seriously, lecturing aside, unless you intend it to be your dog (and not a gift for the kids) you need to re-think things.

As the slogan goes, 'a dog's for life, not just for Christmas'

  • Search on the yahoo

    i don't know

    i'm sorry

    hi england!

  • Try a golden retriever rescue site, I'm sure that you could find one close to you.

  • Ok....advice it is.

No reputable breeder churns out pups for the holidays. So, if a breeder offers you an xmas pup, run screaming in the other direction.

Go to a rescue of shelter....honestly. You may have to get the dog a bit earlier, or later, but you will at least know you have a vet checked and altered dog.

  • Just be sure you want a puppy yourself not just the kids. Puppies are alot of work and you will be doing alot of it not just the kids. Also when you get a puppy on a holiday its very stressful for the puppy especially with all the excitement on christmas morning, if your going to get them a puppy you may want to do it the day before or after when its quieter. Ask around to see if there are any reputable breeders in your area.

  • go to a breeder, not a pet store. i got mine from a breeder and i lover her dearly.dogs from pet stores are usually visious or really wild. i dont know the exact address of the breeder but u can probably find one locally. i'm glad if i helped.

  • Hi there
    best website for that
    is pets4home.co.uk,
there is not many golden dog around!

  • Go to www.puppyfind.com and find puppy you want in the area you want. This is a wonderful website and it is so easy to use.

  • Any reputable breeder will not let pups go before Christmas. The majority of shelters will not adopt out pets the week before or the week after Christmas. With all the hussle and bustle of Christmas, it will not get the attention needed (a) for housebreaking purposes, (b) to fit into a strange environment.
If you want to give your kids a pup for Christmas, give them a stuffed one for under the tree, along with a book on puppy training, collar, leash, dog crate & pad, bed, and food and explain that since, puppies (and new shelter dogs) need SO much attention, you each need to determine what chores you are willing to do with the puppy and write up a schedule. Once everyone is on board, then go get your pup or rescue a shelter dog, or go to Golden Rescue.

  • Christmas is not the appropriate time to buy a puppy with all the excitement and overload of work, nor would any good breeder allow you to have a puppy for Christmas. A puppy deserves the best start in life, which is a calm and peaceful house, organised and 'normal' living in place, so it understands the 'rules' of the house and can adapt gently into family life and given the time it deserves and that it will need. This time of year it is more difficult to socialise puppy's and toilet train them.
Surely buying a puppy is a serious consideration and you buy a puppy for the family not children. A dog is not a toy, it is a living, breathing animal, has needs and requirements, not thought of as a problem, shut outside in the cold when it pees on the carpet or bites the children because of too much excitement in the house or is not allowed to sleep peacefully because children want to play with their 'christmas present'. Do you know how many dogs are bought as Christmas presents? Then thrown out after christmas because of all the extra work they create, rescue centres are full of them and the staff hate this time of year. Much advertising and educating has been done over the years about NOT buying a puppy for christmas. Please wait, a puppy is a huge commitment and the best time to buy is springtime, when the weather is better, the nights are lighter, you can prepare and train your children for a new family member, phone a training class and have the children visit and watch (many trainers will welcome this) and get the children to do a project all about the breed you are planning to buy, feeding and responsibilities, so they know and understand fully.

  • If a reputable breeder has puppies ready to go on Christmas Eve, they will hold on to them until 2nd January.
No responsible breeder allows their puppies to go as Christmas presents. If new owners aren't willing to wait until after the holiday - tough!
Like most breeds, Goldens have a number of health problems, if you are buying a pup, make sure you buy from a breeder who hip scores, elbow scores & eye tests the parents before breeeding

  • if you live in the uk try this website
    www.champdogs.co.uk

thats where i found my first golden retriever, and ive had her for 4 years now.

and remember, 'a dog is for life, not just for chrismas'
