Devoted to kendo 2

  • I am thinking of devoting myself to kendo for 3 years....

I am looking for all the good reasons to do this.

    Q. Why would it be a good idea to do this?

    Your responses are appreciated

  • The reason I get devoted to martial arts is easy. Just show up to class. Easy, and by doing that, you get closer and closer. It's the will to get to class that makes me train. I could never self train.
    Peace and love.

  • If you could write more about your situation, it would be more helpful to get answers.

  • I don't understand the limit, and also, define devote.

  • Why would you limit yourself to 3 years?

Kendo is something you can do for your entire life. One of my old sensei's passed away at 84 and he was active in kendo right up to the very end. I certainly hope to be able to keep it up as long as he did.
There's no way you can learn enough in 3 years.

There are many good reasons for you to start, this is mine: What you learn in your dojo (respect, mental/physical toughness, humility, self esteem, etc, etc, etc) can be applied throughout your life. You cannot fake your abilities/knowledge or conceal yourself when you're facing another opponent in kendo, THAT's where you truly learn and grow, and that's what will help you to be successful in life.

Good luck to you and I look forward to what others have to offer.

  • Ahhh Kendo: Teh Way of Teh Sword. Currently a way in which the majority attempt to find exercise, friendship and generally cultivate the mind. Understand the opponent and cut him wherever you please. Once upon a time in a land far away, under a rising sun, blood spilt on the soil of a grassy knoll, the warrior fell and was as dead as a dodo.

Surely you would want to understand Kendos depth more than that, cause its prob all ull learn in 3 years! ^^

But one day you will be an aging man with a caring family and students to follow you. Still not knowing all its purpose but with defined sense of it, and a happy life.

N e way whatever you choose,

    Peace :D

  • Yeah, if by devote you mean going to japan and practicing every day in a high-school dojo for three years then you have mucho respect for considering it. THAT would be devotion.

And also, if you don't find kendo pleasurable, you won't do it for 3 minutes, let alone 3 years.
