Customizing Your Boots
I'm sick of my plain old black adidas Supernovas so I'm going to paint them cause I got a new pair of boots anyway. I'm taking any suggestions (not all red though, they'll just look like the red Predator Manias then). Also, should I use paint for leather or any spray paint? I'm betting spray paint will chip easily. So far, the main color schemes in my head are metallic green/dark green with a white tongue and green logo or maybe trying to copy that orange Vapor colorway. Anyway, I'm open to suggestions and if you've got picks of customizations you've done to your cleats (Nike or adidas) feel free to throw the pics in here and tell me how you did it and how they've withstood actual wear from play.
P.S. - If ANYONE has AZT IV pics post those too!
If you have leather boots, use a leather dye for the leather parts. But always follow the instructions and apply at least three coats so the colour sinks in.
If you are painting the plastic parts or synthetic boots, dont use normal car spray paint. What i used is a Tamiya RC Car Spray paint. I was the first to do this (on my vapors, and on a ball) so i can take full credit. lol.
If you want to leave details on the boot, ie the Adidas logo, nike tick, stud colours, use masking tape to mask out the details you want to keep and once its dry take it off.
When using spray always use a minimum of three LIGHT dusted coats, and take your time. It took me 1 hour to paint my vapors. DO NOT just spray a thick as coat of spray, cause it will literally not dry and will just rub off and leave marks every where.
Finally, blacking out/colouring in your boots will not make miracles. The parts of the boot which come in high contact with the ground/ball, the colour WILL rub off over time. It was not ment to be that colour.
But the final rule is to TAKE YOUR GOD DAM TIME!!! Ive seen so many people try to black out vapors, and manias, and even though the colour scheme is nice, they look like someone dunked them into a bucket of paint.
Id also show you the before and after pics of my vapors.
Before http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=b416ma.jpg
notice the nice even coat, not to clogged, and details on the studs.

once again the nice coat on the side, looks like the original colour.

as you can see, i used my vapors quite vigorously before and after I sprayed them. Notice the Nike tick, the original colour is there, because my chose spray did not stick to them so i ended up using nail-polish remover to remove the rest of the paint on them. Also the skin on the toe of my left foot had been previously scraped off, that is one of my main pressure points, so the colour has come off quite easily, Also notice the instep and ontop of the boot, the original colour is showing. And even though you cant see the sole of the boot has pretty much returned to its original colour.
Also the funny toungue style is to copy my copas, and it looks unique. I also did this first lol.
Well guys theres your basic colouring instructions. Ive also blacked out a ball, and made my own nike tick on it. No pics though but its holding up well.
But only be prepared to black out your boots IF you have permission from your parents (in my case yes) be prepared to pay a few dollars/pounds etc (total around $15nz for me) and if you are TOTALLY sure you want to do this. Once your done its done, it would never be the same again, also, with my vapors, I know this sounds funny, but when i put the boots on in a cold day, they felt kinda hard, even though I used them LOTS (20+ hours a week) before they were relativly soft even for synthetic, but you may need to warm up your feet to warm up your boots to get the best performance.
Well thats my article on customisation. Maybe it could get pinned to stop all these people asking question.
If you have anything else you wanna ask, im your man! Still havent done leather yet, but my mate did his corteaz well with leather dye, and they held up quite well.
