Cudos to Aeroplan!

  • To my great surprise, I was able to get my exact preferred dates for a reward ticket flight from Toronto to Toyko (stopover for 5 nights) to Bangkok, then return to Hong Kong (2 nights) then Toronto (via Vancouver). It was so unexpected that I had four alternative itineraries in mind when I made the call. Plus, the lady that I dealt with at Aeroplan was efficient and even humourous! Like many here, I am prone to complaining about Aeroplan, but this time they got everything right. Credit where credit is due.

    But perhaps to better help the rest of us you could share a bit more information with us: For example, which carriers you are flying, since AC only goes to NRT and HKG. That will let us know what the award seat situation is like on these other STAR carriers. Also, what time of year are you travelling -- next week or next winter [not actual dates, but is this high season or low to your destinations, and how far in advance did you have to book to get what you wanted -- and finally in what class did you request seats. Or was it just one seat.

    All these variables play into whether award seats are available readily or hard to come by.

    So the most information one can provide in posts like yours, the more value your post can have for others. Also, do you hold any elite status in AC, or are you a basic member?


  • Hi Shareholder, here are some more details:

    1. Flight from Toronto to Narita is on AC; Narita to Bkk is on Thai; Bkk to HK on Thai; HK to Toronto on AC (via Vancouver I believe).
    2. Trip begins in late October of this year; return is in mid-November.
    3. Sadly, economy class
    4. It was just one seat

  • Great,quoxton. Just don't expect to get this type of routing in the future. She was so great that she gave you too many stopovers. Unless you are doing this on two rewards.
