what should i set the cpu clock speed to in the bios, the clock ratio
is auto.
i have changed processors from amd athlon xp 1800 (266) to amd athlon
2600 (333)FSB.
the bios popped up to say change the cpu ratio.
it is auto. should the clock speed be increased to reflect new
processor speed.
the current speed is set at 133.
i have a epox 8k3a+ motherboard and it allows bumps in one increment
at a time.
don't know what it should be.i also have found this problem but in addition to this my 8k3a+ is
saying that the multiplier is reading wrong eg. 13x (in the
multiplier) is actually 12.5x and 14x is 5x and 15x is 5.5x wtf is
with that?? i flashed the bios using the magicflash from the epox tech
support website but it didnt fix the multiplier prob. only thing it
did was try and tell me that my 2600+ amd is a 2000+!! so im thinking
i need help!Your safest bet, and what will not void the warranty would be to run
it at 16 x 133mHz which gives you the 2.128gHz your processor is
supposed to run at. You can change the clock speed higher if you with
to squeeze more processing power out of it, but at your own risk, and
too high may cause your chip permanent damage and cause it to fail.
The editors at amdmb.com (an AMD specific PC enthusiast site) are
brave enough to take risks such as that, and sucessfully pushed this
piece of hardware to 2.432gHz (16 x 152mHz) which is roughly %12.5
percent faster. But this again isn't covered in your warranty, and no
garantee is made to how long your computer will remain functional at
that speed.
Here is the webpage which gives graphs and methodologies of how they
got their system to be overclocked stabally. I still suggest that you
keep your fast computer at its default (very fast) speed of 16 (or
auto as you have it) x 133mHz.

the addition to the problem seems to be that despite the settings i
have it on, everything i run tells me its an amdxp 2000+.
norton, amd cpuid, belarc.
its strait out of the box from amd purchased at fry today.
the box is properly labeled and sealed.
i am confused that it doesn't show up anywhere as a 2600.Try looking for a setting to reset your NVRAM, it might have your old
processor stuff stored in its internal BIOS ram, and is using that to
report back to the rest of the computer.
