  • I don't get the connection. The "checkers" speech was in response to allegations that Nixon had taken kickbacks or bribes. He said the only gift he had ever accepted was his cocker spaniel, Checkers.

    No one was accused of taking kickbacks or bribes. Joe the Plumber asked Obama at a campaign activity if the purchase of this business he'd worked on for a long time would, in fact, increase his taxes. Since the business would have an income for Joe the Plumber of over $240,00 a year, the honest answer was "yes." I understand that Obama told him the truth.

    McCain implied that Joe wasn't going to purchase the business because of the higher tax he'd pay on that income from the business.

    Frankly, not increasing your income from $50,000 per year to $240,000 because your tax rate would go up doesn't make good financial sense. The increased tax burden is NOT going to be $190,000!



    (LOL -That would be "wasted." The other one is your middle.)

    Added - You all do realize that "Income" from a business in not taxed on the gross, but on the net. If this business has to pay employees out of the $240,000, the NET income which will be taxed will be below $240,000.

  • No, I didn't. I'm glad you don't mind giving up half of your hard earned money to benefit those who never worked a day in their life. Gee, that just somehow seems fair. This is punishing success and rewarding laziness, PERIOD. If you see it any other way, then you might be confused.

  • No, I did watch the Obama-McCain debate though.
    The plumber wants to open his own business which means hiring employees. He was referring to his business, not his personal income, making over $250,000.00 annually.
    If Capitalism is working, let it work for you: seek a better paying job, obtain more education, and take the risks involved in opening your own private enterprise. Quit dreaming and start doing.
    Time to pay some back? I guess you think you deserve your cut of someone else's labor.
