Anyone know of any upcoming Seat Sales?

  • I am taking the six in our family on vacation from YYT to YYZ this summer and the costs have gone up considerably. Before JetsGo packed it in, I could have flown all of us for $2300, all in. Now that has gone up to $3200, and there are no AP seats available.

I want to go either late July or August. Does anyone think there will be a seat sale?

  • Thanks for all the help. I'll certainly keep checking the WS site on the weekend to see if anything comes up.

WS is not pulling out of YYT though as stated by YEG Guy. They are pulling out of YQX. It is profitable here because almost every plane is full from YYT, especially now with the demise of JetsGo. What is also missing this year is the Charter airlines that have been flooding the market for the past couple years.

I figured that out last night. Canadian cities east of Montreal have always been a geography issue since grade school. I'm a Western raised boy that knows the difference between Ryley, Tofield and Camrose.

  • And summer is known for a pretty high volume season and likely less needs for a seat sales to fill in the planes... :( Sorry for you!

  • Westjet has had seat sales on select routes for the past two weekends from Friday-Sunday only. I don't know if your route will be available but its worth a look next weekend..

  • The only true answer is that besides a few people in Air Canada, Westjet, Canjet marketing departments, no one knows for sure what the sales will be. Additionally, you’re flying out of city with a significant change in market capacity with the reduction of both Jetsgo and Westjet.

Overall, post Jetsgo in the West and on transcon I have seen fares rise anywhere between 20-40%, so your fare increase is consistent.

Some other advice unfortunately does not apply to you because Westjet will have pulled out by July. For others viewing this post, Westjet has experimented with running seat sales on the weekends. These seat sales open Saturday morning and expire Sunday at midnight. The fares are very close to Jetsgo type fares (e.g. $65 o/w YYC-YVR).

I suspect that Westjet and Air Canada will have further seat sales once the Jetsgo fares are removed from the system. Keep in mind that for April and May AC and WS had a lot of deep discount fares purchased, these fares were removed on Jetsgo's demise. Once the late summer roles around, Westjet and Air Canada can offer a smaller selection of deep discount fares without depressing the average yield.
